Iron Bowl XIII John Kasay, PK - Mississauga Riot |
John Kasay scored an impressive 15 points in the franchise's first ever trip to the Iron Bowl, helping the team secure the win. When the offence could not score a touchdown, he was tasked with the challenge of keeping the lead and putting much needed points on the board. Kasay scored four field goals, two from beyond 40 yards. Kasay becomes the first ever placekicker in Iron Bowl History to be named Iron Man.
Game Stats | Kicking: 4/5 FG, 3/3 XP |
Iron Bowl XII Larry Fitzgerald, WR - Denver Storm |
When his numbers were called on any given play, Larry Fitzgerald rose to the challenge. Fitzgerald was the game's big playmaker as he caught for a new Iron Bowl record of 171 yards, breaking the record set back in Iron Bowl III by Baltimore's Rod Smith of 158 yards. Fitzgerald was also one reception short of tying Marvin Harrison's record of 12 from Iron Bowl V. Along with those impressive statistics, he also caught two touchdown passes in the victory.
Game Stats | Receiving: 11-171-2 |
Iron Bowl XI Willie Parker, RB - Arizona Anarchy |
Iron Bowl 11 had many stars that underachieved. The pressure of the big day was too much for most, but Willie Parker decided to take over the game. He was used all over the field and had almost 150 total yards of offence, with two touchdowns. He allowed his team to grind out the clock late in the fourth quarter racking up 37 carries. That's 5 more carries than the previous record of 32, set by Marshall Faulk, in Iron Bowl V.
Game Stats | Rushing: 37-134-2, Receiving: 2-11-0 |
Iron Bowl X Larry Johnson, RB - Oakland Dirtbags |
The game plan on this day was simple. Play solid defence and let Larry Johnson do the rest. Larry Johnson had more rushing yards then the Express offence was able to rack up in total. His three touchdowns were also more than the Express were able to manage as a team. He wore down the defence and allowed his team to exert tremendous pressure on the offence. He became the third runningback to total over 200 yards rushing in an Ironbowl game.
Game Stats | Rushing: 26-201-3, Receiving: 2-21-0 |
Iron Bowl IX Marc Bulger, QB - Denver Storm |
Marc Bulger’s gritty performance quieted critics across the league that he wasn’t good enough to win the big game. By throwing for a record 450 yards, Bulger guarantees his place in the history of the game by becoming the fifth quarterback in nine years to become the Iron Man in the league title game. Bulger was also able to connect on three touchdown strikes to give his team the advantage they needed to erase the memories of losing in Iron Bowl IV.
Game Stats | Passing: 29-39-450-3, Rushing: 1-minus 3-0 |
Iron Bowl VIII Ahman Green, RB - Baltimore Bruisers |
Two more rushing yards by Ahman Green would have tied an Iron Bowl record for rushing yards, but it was enough to guide the Baltimore Bruisers to their second title. Green was able to grind out yards after scoring his two touchdowns to allow the Bruisers to continue to kill the clock in this high scoring game. Green proved his worth to the team in the first year he arrived, by winning the Iron Man award and a title for the Bruiser organization.
Game Stats | Rushing: 20-218-2, Receiving: 1-9-0 |
Iron Bowl VII Chad Pennington, QB - Washington Warriors |
Chad Pennington provided enough offence to guide his team to its first Iron Bowl victory in its first attempt. Thus, marking the first time in GFL history that an expansion franchise would be taking the Iron Bowl home to celebrate the victory. On this day, Pennington was able to muster four touchdown passes to guide his young team to the pinnacle of football success in a game few pundits gave this team a chance to win.
Game Stats | Passing: 17-24-196-4, Rushing: 2-3-0 |
Iron Bowl VI Peter Boulware, LB - New England Express |
The first defensive player to capture the Iron Man award was Peter Boulware. On this faithful day he was a terror to the opposition by disrupting the passing game with his four sacks and a menace on the run plays with his seven combined tackles. Boulware flew to the ball on this day setting a precedent for future defensive Iron Men to come. His play on this day re-defined how teams play defence in the GFL.
Game Stats | Defence: 5-2-4.0 |
Iron Bowl V Marshall Faulk, RB - New England Express |
In Iron Bowl V the league was introduced to a new breed of player, with Marshall Faulk posing problems for both the secondary and front seven of the Dallas Dawgz. Faulk ran for an astounding 200+ yards and two touchdowns with another one to come via the passing game. Faulk revolutionized the game with his style of play, and broke the mould of the tools a runningback should posses.
Game Stats | Rushing: 32-220-2, Receiving: 7-41-1 |
Iron Bowl IV Steve Beuerlein, QB - Baltimore Bruisers |
Never in Iron Bowl history has one player so imposed his will on the game, as when Steve Beurlein connected for an amazing five touchdown passes and thirty one total points, both Iron Bowl records. This pivot made sure that his team would not lose a third consecutive Iron Bowl and took the offensive load entirely on his shoulders. He was also the first quarterback to break the illustrious 300-yard passing mark in an Iron Bowl game.
Game Stats | Passing: 22-41-322-5, Rushing: 1-4-0 |
Iron Bowl III Randall Cunningham, QB - Dallas Dawgs |
Randall Cunningham became the second consecutive quarterback to win the Iron Man award, for throwing two touchdown passes. This time it was another well-guided assault against the Baltimore Bruiser defence, who had not yet learned how to defend the pass. Cunningham also became the first player in Iron Bowl history to score on a two-point conversion.
Game Stats | Passing: 23-35-235-2, Rushing: 2-2-0 |
Iron Bowl II Brett Favre, QB - Philadelphia Phoenix |
Despite throwing for only 156 yards, Brett Favre guided his team to two key drives, ending with touchdown passes. His rather pedestrian numbers were not a true indication of the precision and accuracy with which he slung the ball around the field on this day. Favre sprayed lasers all over the field to keep the tenacious Baltimore Bruiser defence at bay, and open up running lanes for Ricky Watters.
Game Stats | Passing: 12-18-156-2, Rushing: 1-minus 1-0 |
Iron Bowl I Terry Allen, RB - Jacksonville Jamaicans |
In a game dominated by the aerial attacks of the two combatants, Terry Allen got the tough yards needed for the Jacksonville Jamaicans' victory. Allen was able to penetrate the Philadelphia Phoenix armour on three occasions for a touchdown when the team was at the door and in dire need of a score. Without his heroic efforts to dive over the top of the pile, or push the pile into the endzone, the Jamaicans would have lost in Iron Bowl I as the two teams were very evenly matched.
Game Stats | Rushing: 6-87-3, Receiving: 3-32-0 |
